Week 7: Slicer Big

The assignment for week 7 was to laser cut a larger version of the 3D cardboard object made in the previous week.

Alterations

After printing my smaller chair, I realized that the shape I had made wasn't exactly what I had envisioned and the shape was a bit different from what I expected it to be, so I changed it up a bit before printing this time around. I ended up using Fusion360 instead of Tinkercad and came up with this.

Here it is in Slicer!

Illustrator

I opened all of the plan files from slicer in Illustrator and then worked on nesting them. I separated the text aspect of the plans from the shape itself so they could be cut separately.

Here are my nested design elements.

I saved them to my usb so I could open them on the computer in the lab and print.

Printing and Assembly

I went through the same process as last week when I went to print my files. This went well, although with how I set my origin on the laser cutter, it caused the canvas to be slightly different from the actual cardboard, so a couple slices were slightly cut off, but not enough so to be an issue for assembly.

I popped out all of my pieces, and brought them back to my dorm, where I had a larger amount of floor space to start assembling my chair.

Just like last time, I found Slicer's instructions to be kind of confusing, so I ended up taking those apart and starting over in a way that I thought made more sense!
I put it all together and ended up with this!

Since the bottom isn't fully flat, my chair is a bit wobbly on the bottom. When I put something under the front part of the chair to stop it from leaning forward when I sat on it, it seemed to hold my weight pretty well, although I didn't sit on it for a very long amount of time because I didn't want it to get crushed in case it couldn't hold my weight!

Here are my files!!
